Blotter views and the view editor

A blotter view is a saved layout of the Trade Blotter: which fields are shown and in what order, how each column looks, and the view's grouping, default filters, row density and colour rules. Views are settings, never code. Paper trading only: the orders are simulated and nothing here is investment advice.

Opening the editor

On the Trade Blotter press Edit view. It opens on the view you are using (or a new one) with three panels and a live preview underneath.

  1. Available fields, grouped as Order, Execution, Security, Account, Compliance, Workflow and User-defined fields, with a search box. Fields come from one catalogue on the server, the same one the blotter, its filters and its exports use. You only see fields you are entitled to: a Viewer does not see compliance flags or override reasons, and account fields only ever cover accounts you can view.
  2. Columns in the view, in order. Add a field with its + button, by double-clicking it, or by dragging it across. Reorder by dragging, with the arrow buttons, or with Alt+Up / Alt+Down on a selected column. Remove it with its × button, by double-clicking, or with Delete.
  3. Column settings for the selected column: a label of your own, a width in pixels, the alignment, the number format (decimals, thousands separator, and plain, currency, percent or basis points), Pin at the left, and whether the view sorts by it by default, ascending or descending, with a second sort ("Then by").

View settings: group rows by a field (for example status, side, symbol, trader, or a user-defined field), the default filters (side, notional range, symbols, statuses, today, flagged, mine), compact or normal rows, and colour rules such as "Slip bps > 20 shown red". Colours come from a fixed list (red, amber, green, blue, grey); a rule compares a column with a number or text you type.

The live preview

The preview shows the first rows of your own blotter exactly as the saved view will show them; the same code formats both. If a field in a view is no longer available to you (a user-defined field was switched off, or your role changed) it is left out with a notice, never an error.

Saving and sharing

  • Save keeps the view for you. Save as shared view makes it available to everyone in the firm; this needs the Admin role or the Manage shared views privilege. Only the person who made a personal view, and those who manage shared views, can change or delete it.
  • Open the blotter with this view (my default) or Set as my default makes the blotter open with it. Admins (or those who manage shared views) can make a shared view the firm default, used by everyone who has not picked one. Reset to the firm default drops your own choice.
  • Duplicate copies any view you can see into a personal one; Rename and Delete do what they say. Every change is in the event log.
  • Each person can keep up to 50 views. Exports (CSV) use the columns of the view you are on.

The demo has a shared view, Execution quality: time and symbol pinned, % done, algo, arrival and average price, slippage in basis points (red above 20 bps, green when negative), notional, the security's Internal rating, the trader, the accounts and their Mandate code.
